SALEM, Ind. (AP) - State Police have charged a southern Indiana man with two counts of murder following the slayings of a man and woman in his hometown.

Detectives arrested 29-year-old Joe P. Hambel of Salem shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday after 37-year-old Valerie E. Dicus and 36-year-old Joseph R. Hobson were found unresponsive in the home they shared about five hours earlier. They were pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police say preliminary autopsy results show Dicus died of a single gunshot wound Hobson died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Police were summoned to their home about 30 miles northwest of Louisville, Kentucky, by a 911 caller.

It’s not clear whether Hambel has an attorney who might comment on his behalf.
