PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say they’re investigating two unrelated fatal shootings at motels early Monday morning.

Police say a security guard shot and killed one of two robbery suspects during an attempted holdup at a Motel 6 on the city’s east side. The man shot in a separate incident at a Knights Inn in west Phoenix had entered a group where there was a group of a people.

A second suspect in the attempted robbery of the Motel 6 fled on foot. That shooting occurred near 52nd and Van Buren streets.

Police say they’re investigating whether the shooting at the Knights Inn was in self-defense.

That shooting occurred is near Interstate 17 and McDowell Road.

No identities were released.
