SUMTER, S.C. (AP) - A 74-year-old suspect has been accused of fatally shooting a man in Sumter.

Sumter police say Nathan ‘Smoot’ McBride was arrested and charged with murder Friday in the death of 45-year-old Jermaine Williams.

Police found William’s body that afternoon in a roadway.

Investigators believe the two men had an argument at McBride’s home prior to the shooting. Police say after Williams left the home in his car and was followed by McBride.

They say Williams was later shot when he stopped and got out of his vehicle.

Authorities say McBride was taken into custody a short time later and a weapon was recovered. It’s unclear whether McBride has an attorney.
