BOLIGEE, Ala. (AP) - A Greene County Jail inmate who overpowered jailers to escape has been captured.

According to AL.com (https://bit.ly/2bcDulY) authorities say 23-year-old Eric Washington was taken into custody Monday at about 1:20 p.m. by U.S. Marshals, ALEA and Greene County sheriff’s deputies after being spotted on a rail car in Boligee by a railroad employee. Authorities say he was armed with a loaded handgun when captured.

Washington escaped on Aug. 16. after authorities say he overpowered jailers and took their keys. They say he was believed to be armed with a shank at the time.

There was a $10,000 reward offered for information leading to Washington’s arrest.

On June 30, Washington was convicted of second-degree assault and discharging a weapon into a vehicle. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
