MIDDLETOWN, Del. (AP) - Officials say lightning struck and heavily damaged a Middletown house.

Middletown Fire Chief Frank Bailey says the owner was home when the lightning hit Sunday afternoon, but he was not hurt.

Bailey says a neighbor was able to get the owner out after seeing smoke coming from the home.

He says it took firefighters about 40 minutes for them to bring the flames under control.

Bailey was unable to give an estimate for how much damage was caused.
