COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Officials say a man has been shot and killed following an attempted robbery in Columbia.

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said in a statement Sunday that 33-year-old Timothy Callahan was shot around midnight Saturday. He later died at a hospital.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says Callahan died from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Witnesses told police that a suspect shot Callahan after demanding his vehicle. The suspect fled the scene after the shooting.

No arrests had been made as of Sunday night.
