BEND, Ore. (AP) - Verizon Wireless has texted some Oregon customers asking them to support its plan to build a 120-foot antenna pole east of Bend.

The Bulletin reports (https://bit.ly/2bJsTwI ) that the company texted some Bend-area customers asking them to reply “YES” to show support for the project. The text states that it is free.

Verizon is seeking permit approval for the antenna from Deschutes County. A public hearing on the issue is scheduled for August 30.

Verizon spokeswoman Heidi Flato says the company has not received the results of its texting effort asking for support. She was unsure how many customers were contacted but said such surveys are common.

The telecommunications company says the pole will provide better coverage and data capacity east of Bend and along Highway 20.
