LOS ANGELES (AP) - Preservationists are upset after the stained glass windows were removed from a 90-year-old church in Hollywood.

The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/2biw65G ) that the former Bethany Lutheran Church of Hollywood has been set to be converted into creative offices for months, but an area planning commission had required that the outside of the building could not be altered without approval.

Despite the restrictions, the building department granted a permit to change with window glazing and remove many of the arched window panes.

Residents say the windows were a fixture in the area and they had hoped the stained glass would remain even as the building changed owners. The building department is now working to revoke the window permit.

The new owners, a company called 4975 Sunset LLC, declined to comment.
