MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The highest ranking Republican in the Wisconsin state Senate is joining with Donald Trump in calling for a special prosecutor to investigate Bill Clinton’s charitable foundation.

Trump’s campaign released a statement Tuesday from Wisconsin state Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald. He is a Trump supporter and has called for Republicans to unite behind him to defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton and help other GOP candidates down the ballot.

Fitzgerald says that the Clinton Foundation is a “pay-to-play scheme” that “demands a special prosecutor because the Justice Department has proven itself incapable of conducting a serious investigation with Hillary running for a third Obama term.”

Bill Clinton on Monday defended the work of his foundation, but said changes would have to be made if his wife becomes president.
