LITHONIA, Ga. (AP) - The mother of a DeKalb County student who was injured during football practice and hospitalized is suing the school district.

WSB-TV reports (https://2wsb.tv/2bE3N2R) Akima Clyburn-Green filed the lawsuit Monday, saying her 15-year-old son was cut in the weight room at Arabia Mountain High School in March when he was running during football workouts and his leg hit an exposed piece of metal from a broken electrical outlet cover.

The teen spent three days in a hospital and spent some time in a wheelchair, but he’s recovering now.

His mother called the exposed outlet a “hazard.”

Michael Rafi represents the family and says the district declined twice to pay for any of the $56,000 in medical bills.

The school district told the WSB-TV that they can’t comment on pending litigation.
