PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island State Police have arrested a man they say oversaw an organized retail crime operation out of his home and a Federal Hill social club.

After a monthlong investigation, 73-year-old Richard Tiberi, of Johnston, was charged with receiving stolen goods valued above $1,500, soliciting another to commit a crime and conspiracy.

Organized retail crime involves the theft of retail merchandise to resell it for financial gain.

Police say Tiberi oversaw the operation from his home and the Decatur Social Club in Providence. They say surveillance showed him meeting with co-conspirators to purchase stolen items.

Tiberi was arrested Thursday after police searched his home and vehicle. He was arraigned Friday in District Court and released after posting bail.

Tiberi’s attorney said he wouldn’t comment because he doesn’t discuss pending cases.
