HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree is apologizing after trying to snatch a camera Friday from a blogger who’s long been critical of DuPree.

The longtime mayor says he “acted in a way that was the wrong way, and I apologize.”

DuPree tells WDAM-TV (https://bit.ly/2bw1xd2) that he should have walked away instead of grabbing the phone from Tom Garmon, who operates the Hattiesburg Patriot website. Garmon has alleged that DuPree’s administration is incompetent and corrupt.

Garmon is criticizing the mayor’s spokeswoman, saying she “accosted” him and repeatedly tried to reach for the camera.

The confrontation came after a tour of a renovated municipal court building.

A Hattiesburg police officer was passing by and flagged down by the mayor. That officer took a report, but no charges have been filed by anyone involved.
