GRETNA, La. (AP) - A Marrero man who ran over his ex-girlfriend’s 61-year-old mother twice has been convicted.

A jury convicted 42-year-old Earl K. Harris of aggravated second-degree battery Friday. He faces up to 15 years in prison, but could be sentenced to life under Louisiana’s habitual offender law because of previous convictions for armed robbery and drugs.

Harris denied he was driving the SUV.

The woman testified that she was walking home when Harris drove up behind her and struck her. She testified Harris cut through yards to turn around, returning to run over her leg and break it in multiple places. She testified she recognized Harris when he returned a third time, looking at her through a passenger-side window and smiling.

District Judge Conn Regan is scheduled to sentence Harris Sept. 16.
