CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire congressional candidate appears to have a history of inflating or falsifying parts of his resume.

Republican state Rep. Eric Estevez has exaggerated his political, educational and business achievements, The Concord Monitor reported (https://bit.ly/2bPiGz9 ). Estevez is running in a Republican primary to represent the 2nd Congressional District. Estevez is disputing the discrepancies in his resume or attributing them to others’ mistakes.

Several people listed as directors of a consulting firm set up by Estevez told the paper they are not associated with the firm. At least one of the organizations Estevez lists working with, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, denies partnering with him.

Estevez says he has a doctorate in law and public policy from Northeastern University, but the school does not have a record of him graduating from the program. He told the Monitor he has completed the coursework but his dissertation is being processed and he has not walked for graduation.

The paper also reports Estevez claimed political endorsements that didn’t happen. And Estevez’s residency has been challenged in runs for the state legislature in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. New Hampshire’s Ballot Law Commission ruled in Estevez’s favor, but reports show he was claiming more mileage than he was allowed during part of his term.

Estevez has filed paperwork with the New Hampshire Secretary of State’s Office to be on the ballot, and he spoke to reporters about his candidacy in June. But he has not filed paperwork Federal Election Commission. His primary is Sept. 13, and he faces state Rep. Jack Flanagan and Jim Lawrence, a former state lawmaker who unsuccessfully ran in 2014. The winner faces Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster.
