WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man who was shot in the hand and leg by an officer during a foot chase over the weekend is facing charges.

WPRI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2bMCeVF ) 19-year-old Mitchell Savard IV, of Woonsocket, was arraigned Monday. He’s charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing police. He was ordered held as a probation violator. It’s unclear if Savard has a lawyer.

Officers responded to Woonsocket early Sunday for a report of vandalism and discovered one man injured by a machete and another struck with a pipe.

Police say Officer Sean Rochette shot Savard when he “engaged with” him during a foot chase. Savard was treated at a nearby hospital and released.

Officials say it’s unclear whether Savard had a weapon.

Rochette has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
