CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (AP) - A motorcyclist has been killed in a head-on collision in Charlestown.

Police say a car traveling south on U.S. Route 1 Monday afternoon, crossed the highway median and crashed head-on into a northbound motorcycle.

The 21-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not immediately release his name, pending notification of his family.

The 17-year-old driver of the car and two 18-year-old passengers suffered only minor injuries.

During their investigation, police say they found open containers of alcohol and suspected marijuana in the damaged car.

The teenagers were taken to the police department for questioning. The investigation is ongoing.
