DOVER, Del. (AP) - A judge has dealt prosecutors a blow in the cold-case investigation of a 2008 killing in Wilmington.

Rydell Mills was charged with first-degree murder last year in the shooting death of 26-year-old Jerome Green.

The indictment was based in part on a 2009 police interview of Mills while he was in prison serving time for one shooting and awaiting sentencing for another, both involving the same gun used in Green’s killing.

Last week, the judge granted a defense motion to suppress two statements Mills gave during the prison interview because Mills, who was 17 at the time, was not properly advised of his rights by the three detectives who interviewed him.

At the time of last year’s indictment, Mills was serving two years for dealing heroin, violating probation and conspiracy.
