EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A West Texas man has been sentenced to five years of probation for his role in a 2008 crash during a street race that killed a passenger in his vehicle.

The El Paso Times reports (https://bit.ly/2c3x4CH ) Alfonso Guadalupe Zamora had been indicted on manslaughter and aggravated assault charges.

The 26-year-old man pleaded guilty on Thursday to a lesser charge of criminal negligent homicide as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

Authorities say Zamora had been racing his twin brother on an El Paso street in May 2008 when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into another car.

David Sanchez, a passenger in Zamora’s car, was severely injured and died three months later.

The driver of the vehicle Zamora hit suffered broken legs and facial injuries.
