SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - About 29,000 people are expected in Salt Lake City this week at the world’s largest outdoor retail show that comes twice a year to Utah.

The Outdoor Retailer show that starts Wednesday allows store owners to meet with manufacturers and suppliers to preview new products. The summer show focuses on warm weather sports such as cycling, paddle boarding and hiking. Exhibitors fill the Salt Palace Convention Center and dozens of outside tents.

The four-day expo is expected to generate about $25 million in direct spending.

The show has come to Salt Lake City for every show since 1996, except for 2002 during the Winter Olympics.

Show organizers have announced the expo will stay in Utah through at least 2018. Salt Lake County officials are trying to find a company to build a large convention hotel to keep the show long term.
