BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Police say six women have been safely pulled from the water in a New Jersey state park after their kayaks and canoe capsized.

Berkeley Township Police Chief Karin DiMichele tells NJ.com (https://bit.ly/2auxzXE ) that the women placed four single-person kayaks and a two-person canoe into the water in Double Trouble State Park on Tuesday and the boats quickly capsized in the rough and fast-moving current.

Police say the women were able to grab ahold of tree branches and one was able to call 911 from her cellphone. DiMichele says rescue crews were able to pull the women from the water.

The women, all between 18 and 20 years old, were treated at the scene.
