FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - Pinal County authorities say a pickup truck driver fell asleep at the wheel before crashing into the side of a moving train.

They say 27-year-old Roberto Padilla of Gilbert is recovering from a head injury at a hospital after the accident Tuesday afternoon.

Padilla says said he awoke just before crashing into a rail car of the train.

Authorities say the train was crossing the roadway with the safety arms down and flashing lights activated at the time.

They say it appears Padilla tried to brake, but it was too late to avoid the collision and he was ejected from his truck.

Nobody was injured on the train.

Sheriff’s officials say Padilla will be cited in connection with the accident.
