SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies have shot and killed a man who fled from them near Castaic.

The Sheriff’s Department identified him Wednesday as 51-year-old William Bowers. Acquaintances say he was homeless but well-known in the area.

Authorities say Bowers was on probation for a drug violation when deputies recognized him and tried to stop his bicycle Tuesday night.

Investigators say he ran off and was shot, although details haven’t been released.

KABC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2aj7BI4 ) that no weapon was found at the shooting scene.
