PHILADELPHIA (AP) - One of two people charged in the beating death of a 54-year-old woman in Philadelphia has pleaded guilty to third-degree murder.

Philly.com reports (https://bit.ly/2avq5nA ) 51-year-old James Cheever entered the plea Monday and was sentenced to 30 to 60 years behind bars in the slaying of Kathryn Wilson.

Investigators say Cheever’s girlfriend at the time, 47-year-old Jane Johnson, cleaned Wilson’s house and Cheever did odd jobs for her. Authorities say they found out that she had up to $25,000 in the house and planned to steal it.

Prosecutors say they beat her with a wrench in December until she told them where the money was. Cheever admitted to the beating but says it was at Johnson’s behest.

But Johnson’s attorney says Cheever killed Wilson and Johnson didn’t have anything to do with the killing.
