CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) - A Hopewell motorcyclist has died following a two-motorcycle crash on Interstate 295 in Chesterfield County.

Virginia State Police tell local news outlets that 44-year-old Dennis Painter died Tuesday night after he and another motorcyclist lost control of their bikes.

Police say Painter was thrown from his motorcycle and went over the concrete barrier of an overpass. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say the helmet he was wearing wasn’t approved by the Department of Transportation.

The second motorcyclist, 38-year-old Jeremiah Tomlin, was arrested on DUI charges. He was taken to the Chesterfield County jail where he is being held without bond. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.

The investigation is ongoing.
