MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Heat advisories will be in effect Wednesday afternoon and evening in much of Alabama, as temperatures are expected to soar.

The National Weather Service says the heat index value - how hot it will feel - will be up to 109 degrees in parts of Alabama.

Heat advisories Wednesday afternoon will cover large parts of the state, including Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, Troy and Mobile.

The weather service said temperatures will reach the mid- to upper 90s in southwest Alabama.

Forecasters say highs in the upper 90s will also be possible in parts of central Alabama.
