HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A town board has approved a site plan for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to build an outpatient treatment and research facility at Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum site.

Hempstead town officials tell Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/2azrpmr ) that the project’s site plan and environmental review have cleared final hurdles.

Nassau County sold the 5-acre parcel to Sloan Kettering for $6.5 million last year.

Hempstead Building Department officials still have to approve specific architectural details and construction plans before work begins.

Hempstead Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby says the project will provide jobs and address “areas of genuine medical need.”
