GRAND BAY, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say an Alabama man is dead after he became trapped inside his burning home in the Mobile area.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/2bybJpp ) a neighbor in Grand Bay called firefighters early Tuesday after waking to see the house engulfed in flames.

Seven Hills Fire District Chief Paul Newton said firefighters arrived at the burning house at about 5:30 a.m. but were unable to get inside until the flames were under control about an hour later. They found the man’s body inside and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbor Steve Davis said he and another man tried to save the victim before firefighters arrived. Davis said they were unable to kick in the door, and breaking a window released a cloud of noxious black smoke that prevented them from entering.
