PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - A man accused of crashing a stolen police cruiser in northern New Jersey after injuring an officer who tried to stop him has pleaded not guilty.

The Record reports (https://bit.ly/2by2pvN ) 22-year-old Edgar Ordonez entered the pleas Monday to charges including carjacking, aggravated assault and assault on a police officer.

Prosecutors say the incident unfolded Friday when Nutley police responded to a home to investigate a reported domestic violence incident. Authorities say Ordonez jumped into a police cruiser after officers arrived. Police say he punched an officer twice, dragged him and ran over the officer’s left arm and foot.

Ordonez was captured a short time later by Clifton police after crashing with a sport utility vehicle on Route 3.

He’s due back in court on Sept. 14.
