CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - The mayor of a Natrona County town where a former treasurer has been accused of embezzling city funds has submitted her resignation.

Mills Mayor Marrolyce Wilson has resigned her office, effective on Thursday.

The town’s interim treasurer, Dawn Kopp, confirmed Wilson’s resignation.

Former town Treasurer Lisa Whetstone has pleaded not guilty to taking about $64,000 of city funds. Whetstone is charged with felony theft and failing to account for public property.

State investigators have also accused the mayor of being uncooperative during their investigation of the city’s finances.

Wilson has maintained that she has cooperated with investigators.
