WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (AP) - A central Wisconsin teenager has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing the mother of his ex-girlfriend.

A jury convicted 18-year-old Minguel Oertel of first-degree reckless homicide in April. Oertel was found guilty of fatally shooting 47-year-old Theresa Coates at her Saratoga home last August shortly after her daughter broke up with him. Oertel shot himself in the face after killing Coates and spent several weeks in the hospital recovering.

WAOW-TV (https://bit.ly/2cokX7R ) says Oertel apologized and asked for forgiveness before he was sentenced in Wood County Circuit Court Monday. A judge ordered Oertel to spend 15 additional years on extended supervision following his prison sentence.
