TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Surf’s up along the Jersey shore and swimmers should be cautious.

Forecasters say periods of onshore wind and storms far out to sea are stirring up the ocean. Swells are expected to be about a foot higher Tuesday, meaning swimmers could face breakers in excess of 4 feet. Such waves can knock over swimmers.

Forecasters say while the waves will slowly decrease on Wednesday, there is a moderate risk for dangerous rip currents.

People are advised to swim only when lifeguards are on duty.
