LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a 3-year-old boy pulled unresponsive from a pool at a Lowell home has died.

The boy had been in the hospital since Aug. 20 when he and a 2-year-old girl were found in the pool during a birthday party at the home.

It’s unclear how the children ended up in the water.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent William Taylor said in a statement Tuesday that the girl, who was also unresponsive, has since been released from the hospital.

The district attorney’s office says the death is still under investigation but called it an “apparent drowning.”

No names have been released.

Residents of the home have not commented.
