ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is warning swimmers and boaters in Lake Lanier about an alligator that has been spotted in the area.

WSB-TV (https://2wsb.tv/2bBMPiw ) reports that at least two fishermen and one boater have reported seeing the alligator.

Department of Natural Resources regional supervisor Ken Riddleberger says this is only the third report of an alligator in the lake he can recall in about 12 years.

Riddleberger suspects someone brought the alligator to the area from southern Georgia or Florida when it was a baby and later dumped it in the lake.

Officials say the reptile poses little threat to people. If it becomes a greater nuisance, officials may try to catch it and relocate it to southern Georgia.
