BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A 26-year-old Missoula man is charged with throwing his girlfriend’s infant son on the floor in a Billings hotel room, causing serious head injuries.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2bVsVCb ) Jeffery Alan Merritt-Angst was charged with assault on a minor Tuesday. He did not enter a plea. Justice of the Peace David Carter set his bail at $85,000, ordered a public defender be appointed and set his initial appearance in District Court for Sept. 7.

Merritt-Angst was arrested Saturday after his girlfriend brought her 9-week-old baby to the hospital. The infant was flown to Colorado Children’s Hospital, where doctors found he had a skull fracture and a ruptured blood vessel in his brain.

Investigators say Merritt-Angst told them he was frustrated with the fussy baby and threw him across the room, aiming for a bed.
