SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The mother of a man fatally shot by Utah police has pleaded guilty to a DUI in connection to crashing her car into a Utah Highway Patrol cruiser.

Susan Hunt pleaded guilty on Tuesday to having an open container in her vehicle and to the DUI charge, both misdemeanors. Charges of reckless endangerment and other infractions were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Hunt’s son, 22-year-old Darrien Hunt, was fatally shot by Saratoga Springs police in 2014.

Hunt received a 180 day suspended sentence for the DUI and 90 days suspended for the open container. She will serve one year on probation.

The charges stem from a Jan. 26 incident in which Hunt refused to get out of her car and called the trooper “evil” and said she hoped his children would die.
