LINDEN, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey police officer seriously injured in a crash on Staten Island that killed two people and hurt another man has resigned.

Linden Capt. James Sarnicki tells NJ.com (https://bit.ly/2bZoPub ) 24-year-old Patrik Kudlac resigned from the department earlier this month for personal reasons. Kudlac underwent months of rehabilitation following the March 2015 crash and the department had previously said Kudlac planned to return before the end of the year.

Former Linden Officer Pedro Abad was driving the vehicle that hit a tractor-trailer head on. Authorities say he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.24 percent. That’s three-times the legal limit.

Prosecutors say Abad was drinking at a Staten Island strip club just before the crash that killed another officer and another man. Abad pleaded not guilty to charges in the crash.
