GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a head-on collision in western New York has left one man dead.

The crash happened Tuesday night when 36-year-old Jeremy Wallens’ Dodge Avenger crossed into the opposite lane of a Grand Island roadway and collided with a Ford Ranger. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

State troopers say Wallens didn’t have a seatbelt on, which resulted in his death.

Wallens’ 47-year-old passenger was also taken to a hospital for injuries that authorities say aren’t life-threatening. The 23-year-old driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Investigators say they believe alcohol possibly played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
