COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - Columbus State University police say the Georgia school has reopened after a report of an armed suspect in a student residence hall.

Columbus State officials said in a tweet that an “all clear” was issued Wednesday afternoon because the “suspect is believed to have left the area.”

University spokesman John Lester says authorities haven’t determined whether there was an armed man in Clearview Hall, a new residential complex housing first-year students. He says the building was secured for about two hours as a precaution while police searched door-to-door.

In earlier statements Wednesday, university officials said police were searching for a 17-to-19 year old man wearing dark clothes and a stocking cap.

Columbus State University is in Columbus, Georgia, about 100 miles southwest of Atlanta.
