BOSTON (AP) - Both sides in the charter school debate are hitting the airwaves in an effort to sway voters before Election Day.

The pro-charter school group Great Schools Massachusetts is launching its first television ad on Friday. The group said the 30-second ad in support of a charter school ballot question will run during broadcast and cable Olympics coverage.

Question Two would allow the state to add up to a dozen new or expanded charter schools each year outside of existing caps.

The ad lists five pro-charter school groups as top donors to the campaign.

A 30-second ad opposed to the question financed by three teachers’ unions - the Massachusetts Teacher Association, the American Federation of Teachers and National Education Association - began running earlier this week.

Election Day is Nov. 8.
