CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - The chief of the Corvallis Fire Department says staffing woes prevented his department from being able to extinguish a recent industrial fire before it caused $1 million in damage.

Fire Chief Roy Emery told the Corvallis Gazette Times (https://bit.ly/2aGbenQ) that each fire station has three firefighters and that’s not enough when there are multiple calls for ambulances or fire trucks.

City Manager Mark Shepard presented the details of a July 5 blaze at an auto wrecking yard to the City Council earlier this week to gather support for new funding sources.

It took firefighters 15 minutes to arrive because crews at the two closest fire stations were already out on ambulance calls.

A truck at a third station broke down.
