GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Some of the driest areas of South Carolina are under a flash flood watch.

The National Weather Service has issued the watch for 12 counties in the northwest part of the state until Friday morning. The watch includes the Interstate 85 corridor as well as areas around Greenwood and Rock Hill.

Forecasters say slow moving thunderstorms will develop Thursday, especially in the afternoon. The storms will likely dump an inch or more of rain, and some areas could see up to 5 inches of precipitation.

Maps from the U.S. Drought Monitor show the western part of the flood watch is also in a severe drought.
