ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The union representing faculty and professional staff at the City University of New York says 25,000 employees will get raises under a contract ratified by 94 percent of voting members.

The Professional Staff Congress says the agreement with the CUNY administration includes 10.4 percent in compounded salary increases covering more than seven years, retroactive pay and job security and health care provisions for adjunct faculty.

The contract period is Oct. 20, 2010 through Nov. 30, 2017.

The union says faculty and professional staff will receive a signing bonus under the contract, which includes paid parental leave, increased funding for faculty research grants and the first multi-year appointments for adjuncts.

Chancellor James Milliken says CUNY is now in a position to provide much-needed pay increases and help its competitiveness for talent.
