HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Hilton Head Island is getting some outside help as it weighs the idea of building a performing arts center - an idea that has been discussed for a decade.

The Island Packet (https://bit.ly/2aPTwRE ) reports a town committee will spend the next month reviewing which of five national consultants to hire for the project.

The consultant selected is expected to gather community input, consider options for different types of venues and how much they might cost.

A town committee has been given $20,000 to spend with a recommendation on the project expected by year’s end.

Early estimates indicate a performing arts center might cost $65 million. But a local group backing the idea says a venue could also mean a $500 million economic impact over five years.
