BENTON, La. (AP) - The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office says it has fired a deputy accused of mishandling evidence in an investigation of an alleged sexual assault while he was serving as a school resource office.

A statement Thursday from the sheriff’s office says the 45-year-old deputy, Michael Freeman, was arrested on charges of obstruction of justice and malfeasance in office following an investigation that began in July.

In February, Freeman was working as a school resource officer at a high school when he allegedly failed to report that he had learned of nude photos exchanged by a 14-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man. The sheriff’s office says detectives investigated the girl’s alleged sexual assault by the 20-year-old man.

Freeman had been employed by the Bossier Sheriff’s Office since 2010.
