LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) - Strong winds and heavy rain have swept into southwestern Wisconsin, toppling trees and knocking out power.

The National Weather Service says extensive street flooding was reported in La Crosse after the thunderstorm hit Thursday afternoon. One to two inches of rain fell in less than an hour.

The La Crosse Tribune (https://bit.ly/2aUOqVu ) reports the storm packed winds of 40 to 50 mph, according to the weather service. Trees and power lines were down in the West Salem and Holmen areas.

More than 2,000 Xcel Energy customers were without power in the La Crosse area.
