ORONOGO, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say a 2-year-old boy has drowned in his family’s backyard pool in southwest Missouri.

The Joplin Globe (https://bit.ly/2anEwev ) reports that Wyatt Balcom was found Tuesday night after his mother called 911 to report him missing.

Oronogo police chief Jeff Fries says officers, firefighters and family members were looking for the boy when his body was spotted at the bottom of the family’s above-ground pool in about 4 feet of water. Emergency crews unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate the child. His death was ruled an accidental drowning after an autopsy was conducted Thursday.

Fries says it’s hasn’t been determined how the child accessed the pool area, which is enclosed with a fence.
