COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) - Coos County authorities say a man crashed an all-terrain vehicle in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area and then fled the scene, abandoning his injured passenger.

The Coos Bay World reported Friday that (https://bit.ly/2b8elpg) Derek Funk was taken into custody after sheriff’s deputies found him at his nearby campsite following the accident on Wednesday evening.

The newspaper reports that Funk was speeding and lost control on a slip face dune and then left his female passenger behind.

When he was arrested, his blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit.

Funk, who was also injured in the crash, has been charged with third-degree assault, driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless endangerment.

It wasn’t immediately clear if he has retained an attorney.
