BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A New York City man has been sentenced to nearly three years in federal prison after pleading guilty in Vermont to possessing heroin with the intent to distribute it.

Court records say last year, the Drug Enforcement Agency in Vermont was investigating the distribution of heroin trafficked to Vermont from the New York City areas. A vehicle stop in South Burlington resulted in the seizure of about 4,000 bags of heroin and $4,000. The money was in passenger 24-year-old David Johnson’s backpack. He was arrested.

Johnson will be under supervised release for three years after serving his 33-month sentence.
