SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A robbery suspect has been arrested in San Francisco after a 25-hour standoff with police.

The man was taken into custody around 3 p.m. Thursday.

Police say the incident began Wednesday afternoon when a 29-year-old man punched a woman in the face and took her mobile phone on a street in the Ingleside neighborhood.

Police say the man was tracked to a nearby apartment and officers surrounded it.

Negotiators and SWAT officers were called.

KRON-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2aMKXG1 ) that officers eventually used stun grenades, broke into the apartment and took the man out. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and then booked.

Police did not immediately release his name but his family tells the station that he is mentally ill.
