JENNINGS, Mo. (AP) - Police are searching for a suspect after a St. Louis County police officer was hit by an SUV overnight.

KMOV-TV (https://bit.ly/2azFGVr ) reports that the officer suffered minor injuries.

Police say the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday in Jennings. The officer was talking to the suspect during a traffic stop when the suspect suddenly took off, striking the officer.

The suspect vehicle was spotted later in Bellefontaine Neighbors, but police wanted to avoid a chase so they did not pursue it. Police say the know the identity of the suspect.
